The Basics of Hailee
I am an amateur photographer and have incorporated some of my photos as the backgrounds in this portfolio while other photos can be found in the photography section. My interest in photography first started when I was 13 years-old in junior high but I am currently 21 years-old and in my fourth year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at Thompson Rivers University. I graduated as Valedictorian from a self-directed learning school in Calgary, AB named Bishop Carroll High School. I love to volunteer and often return to my old high school to help out whenever I am not volunteering on campus at TRU. Hiking is one of the passions I discovered while living in Kamloops, BC for university where there are abundant trails to take advantage of.
This quote will be seen in the header on every page of my ePortfolio because if I had a motto, this quote would definitely be it. This quote by Aaron Rose embodies how I approach everything I do. As an amateur photographer, I have a fascination with light and how it changes a scene. No matter how small a task might be, if you have the right perspective, it can be extraordinary. In a working environment, without the people who do data entry, all the great things that happen afterwards may not occur. The same is true for photography; in the right light even something as simple as a tree can be breathtaking.

This is one of my favorite quotes because it helps me stay grounded. I think people tend to perform a version of themselves in order to please whoever their current audience happens to be. Sometimes it's subconscious but we all try to impress others. Regardless of whether it's your boss, your parents, your friends, or people you hope will become your friends, we all do it. This quote is simple yet it reminds me: Is who you are when you're not trying to win anyone's favor someone you can be proud of?

I love to volunteer. I love giving my time to helping others and this quote is a perfect way to summarize my outlook on volunteering. Some people ask me why I volunteer so much. I have always been a believer in the sentiment that the fact someone needs help is reason enough to give them the help they need. You don't need to be getting something in return in order to have a desire to help others and feel good about it.
